Resumen de grasslands. (science)

INTRODUCTION
A biome is a large area where certain types of plants grow. A biome also includes the animals that feed on the plants. Soil, water, and climate help determine the types of plants that grow in a biome. This is your chance to discover more about where you live and the world around you.

TASK:
You will be looking at the following biomes: tundra, taiga, deciduous forest, grassland, desert, tropical rainforest, and ocean. In order to organize your work, you must complete the chart below. You will include names of animals, plants; discuss climate, adaptations, and soil. This information will be necessary for your final activity, a power point presentation.

Name of biome: Grassland.

Info. about soil: Grasslands have deep soils that are very nutrient rich because of the large amount of plant tissue ('biomass') that dies off and is added to the soil through decomposition every year. This is why grassland is often converted into farmland, which has been the case for most grassland in Ontario.
Info. about climate: Temperatures vary more from summer to winter, and the amount of rainfall is less in temperate grasslands than in savannas. Precipitation in the temperate grasslands usually occurs in the late spring and early summer.

Plants: dominant vegetation. Trees and large shrubs are absent. Grasslands can be found in most terrestrial climates. Grassland vegetation can vary in height from very short, as in chalk downland where the vegetation may be less than 30 cm high.

Animals: wild horses, lions, cheetahs, and coyotes are able to protect themselves by running very fast. Other large animals travel in groups. Elephants, zebras and rhinoceros roam the grasslands in huge herds. These herds are able to protect the smaller, weaker animals from lions and other predators.
